Star Wars Attacktix Series 4 - The Buzz

Series 4 of Star Wars Attacktix made their appearance at Toy Fair the beginning of this year. We also were told, in the flood of info surrounding Toy Fair, that Series 4 (and future Attacktix Series) would only have 18 figures.

We all saw the pictures, full of new faces and a new Starter Set. Let's run through the list and see if this makes sense.

The Star Wars Booster Pack
[image] [image]

This pack clearly has Star Wars figures on the front, however the blurry shot of the side is full of Transformers. No big deal, we are happy with the mock up, but lets look closer. The bottom of the box says "6 RARE 12 SUPER RARE." Perfect, that equals the 18 figures we are supposed to see in Series 4. But what's this...

Series 4 Starter Set
[image]

The Series 4 Booster pack has 4 figures. Surely these can NOT be included in the 18 figures they mention in the Press Release. Never before have the Starter figures been considered Rare or Super Rare. So these must be an additional 4 figures. Yes, these are re-issued figures, with new stats, but NEW, none-the-less. More importantly, there are 18 more figures to be found in Series 4.

The Booster Figures

The following figures are those that were on display at Toy Fair, and had no label. These are all assumed to be Series 4... but it just doesn't add up. And that COULD be a good thing! The numbering system is just to tally them up, because as best as I could tell there were NO stickers on these at the Fair, front or back.

IMPERIAL CLASS

>#1 Tarkin
[image]

#2 AT-ST Driver
[image]

#3 StormTrooper
[image]

#4 Imperial Officer
[image]

REBEL CLASS

#5 Slave Leia
[image]

#6 Luke (Endor)

#7 Han (Endor)

#8 Admiral Ackbar
[image]

#9 Endor Trooper
[image]

BOUNTY HUNTER CLASS*

*EDIT: Given the nature of a Bounty Hunter, these could very well be Imperial Class figures

#10 IG-88
[image]

#11 Boba Fett (Flight)

EWOK CLASS (NEW)

#12 Wicket
[image]

#13 Logray
[image]

#14 Generic Ewok
[image]

That is 14 total figures. The coincidence that it is exactly four short, and the Starter Set has four figures is not enough to put my mind at ease. I think there may be four more figures waiting to be seen. With four Empire figures, five Rebels, two Bounty Hunters and three Ewoks it could go anyway.

The Possibilties (or "The Nerd Wishlist")

Gamorrean Gaurd is one of the most requested figures, but due to the Star Wars class system, he would be hard to place. He could show up as a Bounty Hunter like Hammerhead, but I still think this one is, unfortunately, the biggest reach.

Another Stormtrooper, they are popular enough, and easy to make from old molds. But the AT-ST Driver and the Stormtrooper make me think this may not happen.

Lando Calrissian (it's scary how I can spell all these names without looking them up) this guy NEEDS to be in this set. If it wasn't for the fact that the Rebels already have five of the 18 figures, I would say he is golden. I figure, they had to run the figure by Billy Dee Williams for approval first, to make sure he was pimped out enough. Why else wouldn't he be on that table?

4-Lom, Zuckuss or Dengar, one of these guys may show up yet. If Series 3 didn't release only 2 Jawas, I would have said for sure they were holding back on one more Bounty Hunter.

Darth Vader is already available in the Starter Set, and that SHOULD be enough. But do you think Marvel Attacktix will have only one Spider-Man? I doubt that. I don't think we need another Original Trilogy Vader, but they could reissue the Force Blast Vader, since that guy was (and is) tough to find.

Yoda. Why not? My wife is convinced it's Force Blast Yoda time!

Obviously, it could just be some other reissued figures, but shrinking the figure pool down to 18 would usually be the reason to NOT need to do that. AT-ST Driver, Endor Trooper, and Generic Ewok are definitely three of the six Rares. I can think of maybe two more that would Rares, as well. Will there be four more figures? I say, "YES!"**

**EDIT: I stand corrected. SFX commented below, and reminded me the Press Release does indeed say TWO figures are exclusive to the Starter. So I don't know WHICH two, but that will only allow for TWO more boosters. He also brings up a good point that there are two MORE figures in the Intergalactic Showdown box, but since it is Luke and Darth, I suspect it may be dupes of the Series 4 Starter. All in all, with SFX bringing the PR information back to light, we WILL see 2 more figures in boosters. If we have already seen them is still unanswered!

Who will they be? Whenever they announce a release date we will know!

Storing Attacktix - Keeping Your Sith Safe

From Rebelscum

A good question was brought up in Rebelscum's latest Question Mark. Are you putting your toys at risk by storing them in plastic bags? I know the easiest way to keep my Attacktix organized is with a few dozen Ziplocks. But this may not be the best way...

[It was stated that] putting figures in regular Ziplock bags could damage/discolor them rather quickly. Does this have to be under certain conditions only? Will this damage only occur if they are in the bags out in the light?

As plastic deteriorates it puts off gases. In an air tight container (like a Ziplock bag) the concentration of gases can speed up the deterioration of the plastic. In fact, the deterioration of the relatively thin (unstable) baggies themselves can contribute to the problem as well. Even in a cool, dry environment, figures sealed in an airtight bag will deteriorate faster than if they were left out of such bags. Every situation is going to be different, but in all cases you're better off not placing your action figures in airtight bags. Sturdier (more stable) plastic shells, or acrylic coffins are a much better storage option, but even these should be watched carefully and changed once every couple years or so.

We all have figures in our collections that have a slimy, shinny, or mottled look to them. This deterioration is a direct cause of the chemicals within the plastic they are made of and in the end inevitable. There are other elements like mold that attack from the outside, most commonly attributed to the transfer of oils in our fingers by touch. Given time and given human contact these are all things that will effect plastic toys and detract from their appearance. The best environment to slow this process down is a cool, dry, and dust free environment; something that is at times difficult if not impossible to provide. While Ziplock bags may seem like a viable option, they can hasten the decay we are trying to prevent and should be avoided whenever possible.

That being said, if you have your collection in baggies, and there doesn't appear to be any damage, don't panic. Keep an eye on things, understand what 'could' happen, and do what works best for you. As I said, the deterioration is inevitable; it will affect different figures differently, but with proper care you can at least take steps to slow the process down.

SFX Went Crazy!

SFX, the creator of the Toy Shop, has made quite a few new figures. Be sure to check out his complete list of conceptual figures and if you have any questions or comments for him he is always on the Attacktix Forum so just pop in and leave him some feedback!

Enjoy!

SFX's Toy Shop - TIE Bomber Concept Mega Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

TIE BOMBER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Mega
POINT VALUE: 70
SPEED: 4

When people first started talking about their desire for space ships in this game I was opposed. "Attacktix is about troop movements! It's a ground battle! Keep those ships in space!" Then my desire to get my hands on more Star Wars 'tix goodness grew and I started to soften in my "anti-aircraft" opinion. "Well maybe I'd like to see the Tie Bomber at least. I suppose bombing troops is part of any ground army." But with the introduction of the Republic Gunship all bets were off. Now I want them all. Attacktix is about fun and creative game play. Not about strict rules of warfare, adherence to on-screen imagery, or even realistic proportions. It's all about the fun-factor baby!

So today I give you the Tie Bomber. Not because I've gone back on my "it's all good" attitude, but because the Bomber has a cool attack.

The Tie Bomber works a lot like the Republic Gunship. It has a retractable tether that connects it to the base and it also works as a transporter. But where the Gunship carried troops the Bomber carries a bomb (go figure). The Bomber would feature a more traditional release mechanism as opposed to the Gunship's "chomper". With the press of a button the Bomber releases it's cargo. Then all heck breaks loose.

The bomb has four small, spring loaded, missiles (see above photo) that are arrayed evenly around the large disk in the middle. On the bottom of the bomb is the release button. Drop the bomb among your opponents troops and watch them fly in all directions. But watch out for your troopers lest they get caught in the blast. That's some dangerous friendly fire.

SFX's Toy Shop - Ewok Archer Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

EWOK ARCHER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Warrior
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 10
SPEED: 4

While not a figure I thought was a sure thing for Series 4 this is one that I had hoped to see. This little guy would be a small missile launcher and is more than willing to take on the technological might of the Empire.

SFX's Toy Shop - Dexter Jettster Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

DEXTER JETTSTER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Republic
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 4

I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that we were very excited to be getting dual strikers in the form of Darth Maul and General Grievous. When we actually got our hands on them the reaction was more like '"meh". They are cool figures but their double striking ability (or lack thereof) isn't really practical. That's why I give you Dexter. While at first glance not exactly a character that deserves imortalization in 'tix form his anatomy lends itself to a great figure. Both of his striking arms moves independent of the other. Need to strike someone from the right side? No problem. Want to take out that Super Battle Droid with a little south paw action? Go ahead. Dexter will take on all comers.

SFX's Toy Shop - R2-D2 Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

R2-D2
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10

Think of R2 as the switchblade version of C3P0. His front leg would be hollow and Attacktix-ized (a.k.a. comically out of proportion) to make room for the electro shock. Just push down on his shiny dome and he'll send Salacious Crumb or any other figure jumping for the rafters.

SFX's Toy Shop - Emperor Palpatine Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

EMPEROR PALPATINE
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Leader
STAR WARS CLASS: Empire
POINT VALUE: 40
SPEED: 4

The Emperor is a figure I thought was a sure thing for Series 4, it looks like that's not the case. This incarnation would fire 2 small missiles. The missiles would be clear like the force blasts and be sculpted to resemble lightning is some way.

SFX's Toy Shop - Tusken Maiden Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

TUSKEN MAIDEN
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Tusken
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Battle Cry
SPECIAL POWER RATIO: 22/26 (84%)
EFFECT: "You can make two additional attacks per turn as long as you have this Tusken Maiden in play."

This figure falls into the same category as Yoda. It's the "Go ahead and knock me over. I dare ya" category. Usually when I design these figures I don't include a special power and I definitely don't include a SP ratio, but this little lady is different.

The Tusken Maiden brings something to the Tusken team that I believe lends itself to them nicely. She whips them up into a battle frenzy. Think about it like this, the Tusken Maiden hangs to the back of the battle field. To protect her the other Tuskens fight and attack like crazy (thus the two free attacks). When the Maiden is unfortunately killed her death cry (Battle Cry) drives the rest of the Tuskens berserk and they up their attacks.

SFX's Toy Shop - Lobot Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

LOBOT
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 12
SPECIAL POWER: Attackback Lando Calrissian
EFFECT: "If you have Lando Calrissian in play, you may move two Troopers into base contact with this figure during the movement phase of your turn."

Lobot's Effect power could be named "Coordinated Attack". Coordinating things was Lobot's specialty. His Effect recreates his ability to (silently) command troops with his funky robo headband. Yes, I know what you are thinking "Why does a launcher have a 12 speed?" If Lobot had the traditional speed of a launcher his effect would be pretty useless (perhaps I could have made him without a gun, but what's the fun in that?) Moving the Troopers into base contact with Lobot would count as the Troopers movement for your turn.

SFX's Toy Shop - Anakin Skywalker Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

ANAKIN SKYWALKER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Republic
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Attackback Qui-Gon Jinn
EFFECT: "At the beginning of your turn, you may press Anakin's pack. If window shows green you may stand up one of your fallen figures during your opponents next turn."

I'm of the opinion that almost every character that has appeared in the Star Wars flicks should also appear in Attacktix (yes, even Jar Jar) so we definitely need little Annie. His effect power reflects his ability to see things before they happen. Yes it actually recreates the power of Recover but think of it like this, little Annie uses the force to warn one of his teammates about an attack your opponent is about to make. You opponent fires and knocks Annie's teammate over but with Annie's warning the teammate is able to dodge the brunt of the attack and stand up again.

Variations on the Luke and Han in Disguise

Luke and Han in Stormtrooper gear has been one of my favorite additions to Attacktix, and I play Webhead's team below almost constantly, with some variations. Luke and Han in armor, with an unarmed Chewie makes we wish he had a pair of busted electro-cuffs dangling from his attacking hand. The memories of the rescue in cell 1138 come flooding back.

C-3P0 may not have the striking power of a Jedi, or any range at all, but on an all Rebel team his Special Ability could be devastating. It only goes off about 40% of the time, but in an ALL Rebel team, that means your opponent can not make any attacks the next turn. Threepio will eat up 20 points on your starting squad, so adding the Series 3 Leia will allow the all new Uppercut Chewbacca to back up Han. This means you may sacrifice 4 attacks per turn (in the review below), but you now have the possibility of 6-8 unanswered attacks, depending on how quickly Chewie can reach the opponents.

If your opponent attempts to take out the Princess early in the game, to limit your free attacks Chewie has about a 50/50 chance of getting her back in the game. This gives both your strikers reasons to charge in early and take on all comers!

In the best cast scenario, leading with Threepio will require your opponent to shoot around him, or take him our early and risk no attacks the following turn. Threepio's speed can get him in range quickly, and his arm flail can do more damage then you think. Besides Megas, I haven't found an opponent I C-3P0 couldn't conquer when in range.

Keeping Leia in the back is a great idea, giving you three attacks every turn until Chewie or Threepio are in range. This may seem like a waste of her power, but in a battle that requires some Rebel strikers, this is a great option. Also, the powerful launching squad of Webhead COULD be knocked down to three depending on your opponent, leaving you in a situation similar to this team.

In larger battles (100+ points) the Leia/as Trooper combo, along with an R2 unit can also be deadly. Of course, if you are playing 100 point games to win, and don't mind many familiar faces, try a Series 2 Leia and four Luke in Stormtroopers. Have a Force Blast Luke, or Series 2 and 3 Lightsaber Lukes in backup.

Web of Webhead - Building the Squad

Building the Squad: Luke and Han as Stormtroopers…

Attacktix Series 3 brought us two of my favorite characters in the game, Luke and Hand disguised as Stormtroopers. These characters taken together are unique in the game, the only figures with effects, special powers, AND normal attacks. On top of that, their effects and specials do an extraordinary job of conveying the flavor of the characters…they are out to rescue the Princess, so as long as she is in play, they attack for free. Plus, once you crack their armor, they have a chance as coming back as their normal versions. Lets take a look at building a squad around these two characters…Using both Luke and Han as a starting point, we’ve tied up a total of 40 points already, but to really use them to their fullest, we need to pick a Princess Leia to go with them. Neither version of the Princess is well respected for her attacking power…and most would consider the newer, cheaper version to be the better of the two. Both have about a fifty percent chance of her special going off…and it’s an important distinction to make between the two. Keep in mind, both Luke and Han have Recruit powers to bring in alternate versions of themselves, so obviously, we’ll be stocking the Backups with the two of them. In my mind, this makes the Recruit version, though more expensive, the better choice. That would leave 30 points to work with. Now…let’s consider that we are getting two free attacks to start with, and Leia is a third attack. In my mind, it makes the most sense to have another launcher, as you’ll be able to attack with four figures a turn from turn one, every time. As luck would have it, launcher Chewbacca fills in the curve nicely, and adds a large missle to the mix. One quick point, keep in mind Chewbacca’s special only works if Han Solo is in play, not just any Han…so he only has a chance at recovering if you’ve already recruited Han Solo off of Has Disguised or Leia.

Speaking of recruiting, let’s look at our backup configuration. While the new starter “Force Blast” Luke is a legal target for recruiting, it’s clear we want both Luke and Han. Luckily, both have a 20 and 30 point version to choose from. We can eliminate the new Han (his Recruit Chewbacca power doesn’t help us any) and go with the original Han (whose Attackback for Chewbacca could serve us well), and this decision pushes us into the 20 point Luke, whose Attackback for Rebels would benefit anyone on the team as well. Let’s review:

Squad: Rescue the Princess 100 pts.

Luke as Stormtrooper (SW/28)3) x 1 = 20 pts.

Han Solo as Stormtrooper (SW/28)3) x 1 = 20 pts.

Princess Leia (SW/14)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Chewbacca (SW/23)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Backups: 50 pts.

Luke Skywalker (SW/29)2) x 1 = 20 pts.

Han Solo (SW/28)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Playing the Squad:

The whole squad revolves around having four launcher attacks per turn…so use them. Let your opponents strikers come to you, and let Leia hang back a little, because she’s the key to your extra attacks. You’ll need to rely on your Specials to stretch your four man squad out to six, but chances are good you’ll get at least one of your backups into play in an average game. In particular, this squad should have a good chance against Jedi Knight swarm teams, as the raw number of attacks should give you a chance.

In the end, I’m sure you’ll enjoy playing this theme squad that ends up packing quite a punch.

SFX's Toy Shop - Power Droid

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

EFFECT: "At the beginning of your turn, you may press Power Droid's top. If window shows green you may swap one of your figures for a figure of the same name at any time during the movement phase of your turn."

I've always wanted figures that did multiple things, like strike and shoot. Since that wasn't in the cards I posted an idea for a swap special power on a thread about special powers. This time around I thought I'd go one better.

We all know that Obi-Wan can swing a saber, blast the force and kick some butt better than most but when you are playing Attacktix he's a one trick pony... until now. With this little guy you can swap out any figure for a figure with the same name. Have you ever made the mistake of tixing toward an enemy to deliver the killing blow only to find that you miscounted and you are tix or 2 away? With the Power Droid this is no longer a problem. Just swap your striker for it's launcher counterpart and blow your opponent away. With this droid you can take advantage of the high movement numbers of your strikers and the range of your launchers and combine them into a deadly combo.

Custom Attacktix - Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura

ATTACKTIX CLASS: Warrior
STAR WARS CLASS: Jedi
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Recruit (Jedi)
ATTACK TYPE: Striker (Lightsaber)

I made a striking Aayla Secura. I went Copperfield on Padme and cut her in two. Then I scored out her insides and stuck a striking mechanism in there. (Natalie needs to eat, she was WAY to thin, the thing barely fits).

Anyway, I painted her up and secured a lightsaber in her hand and she works like a charm. I haven't tried her against all the big guys, but she has been taking down small and medium bases with no problem!

Check this out to see how she attacks!

She has a great swing since she has NO friction on her hips, since she lost her hips in a freak Dremel accident (You can see it in the back picture.)

Web of Webhead - Breaking R2-Q5

While R2-D2 is probably the most recognizable robot of all time, he does have a dark side.

Or, rather, I should say there is a dark version of him, known as R2-Q5. This droid was found on the second Death Star, and has gained notoriety mostly for his resemblance to R2-D2. In Series 3, he has found his way into Attacktix, with his own special effect to bring to the game. But is it strong enough an effect to “break” the game? Let’s take a look…R2-Q5

R2-Q5 has no attack, but he does have the following game effect; “At start of your turn, you may press R2’s top. If green, one of your (T) Troopers may move up to twice its normal distance.” For 10 points, you get what appears to be a 2 out of 3 chance for this effect to go off each turn.

Now, doubling the speed of your average Clone Trooper to 8, or even your run of the mill Super Battle Droid to 12 might sound like fun, but probably not game breaking. After all, for 20 points you can have the Clone Sergeant who moves 10 all of the time. But…let’s take a look at one of the more derided strikers in the game, the Grievous Bodyguard. In Series 1 he was deemed almost unplayable. So, he made a comeback in Series 3 with an impressive 12 speed and the highest Special Power ratio of any 10 point figure with an attack. (Only R2-D2’s is higher.) Now, even with these improved stats and powers, he didn’t exactly set the Attacktix world on fire. Enter R2-Q5.

R2-Q5 can boost the GBGs speed up to 24, a full 10 ‘tix faster than the next closest figure. On a normal size board, few figures are out of range after the first round of movement at that speed. Without a doubt, the GBG maximizes the effect of Q5. Is this combo enough to build a team around? I think so.

Allow me to suggest the following squad. Central to the squad is the GBG/Q5 combo. Now, Q5 is also good enough to have a Rally > (T) Trooper special, so rounding out the team with pure Troopers seems like a given. Taking GBG’s special into account pushes us further into the Droid Army. Luckily, the buffest Trooper in the game is on the Droid Army bench, the mighty Destroyer Droid. I’d also lean towards throwing in a Super Battle Droid, to assure having two shooters available for when GBG’s are out of range.

Squad:

R2-Q5 x 1 10 pts.

Grievous Bodyguard (S2) x 3 30 pts.

Destroyer Droid x 1 40 pts.

Super Battle Droid (S1) x 1 20 pts.

This squad has no Backups, as there are no Recruit powers. However, there are Rescue and Rally powers, so you do have a shot at getting some figures back into play. The plan is to launch GBGs on kamikaze runs into enemy territory. Though their attacks are weak, is all goes well they should be able to base any enemy and take them out. If their special fires on the retaliaton, all the better to get your Destroyer Droid firing both barrels. There is terrific synergy throughout this entire squad, and the deep distance a boosted GBG can go should allow you to pick off your opponents figs in an order that should minimize the effectiveness of their specials. And if all else fails, you still have the Destroyer Droid and Super Battle Droid, 3 missles a turn, to fall back on.

In closing, I believe this combo is one of the strongest in the game, and I hope you try it out for yourself. Even if all it does is focus your opponents attacks on your non-attacking figure, you’ve already done your strategy a great service.

Transformer Attacktix - An Attacktix Testimonial

Transformers Attacktix are coming out in a few months, and after the initial showing at Toy Fair 2006, they have been met with some skepticism by Transformer fans. Attacktix, be it Star Wars or Transformers, are very odd looking. They have big bulky arms, giant hands, and guns that would make Gilda Radner's chair look small. What is the reason for all this deformity? Functionality.

What this means for Transformer fans is that these toys are NOT for fans who only enjoy the thrill of "transforming" that giant robot. There will be no transformations here, aside from a Special Power that pops up from time to time. However, that does not mean these are not toys for Transformers fans. Take it from me, I moderate one of the only Attacktix Forums and author the only Attacktix Blog I am aware of... and when I bought my first pack of Star Wars Attacktix, I kept the receipt.

Attacktix are fun, and they are meant to be played with! So if you not only love Transformers because of the skill required to transform the toys, but you also enjoy watching the cartoon (any of them) then you will like Attacktix. I can still hear the sound of Optimus Prime transforming into his truck form, with a noise that can not be onomatopoeically written. If you used to make this sound while transforming your figures, and then bang two of them together as if they were fighting in your own lap, then Attacktix is for you!

My wife and I have collected toys for as long as we have been together. During the height of the new Star Wars trilogy, we bought some of the new figures and we battled... but it didn't feel right. Attacktix brings that feeling back! You get to shoot and punch the bad guys (or the good guys!) To do all this, Hasbro had to alter the look of the figures a bit. In contrast, Marvel Showdown figures look awesome. They are basically mini-Marvel Legends that can fight each other. But how do they fight each other? Spider-Man shoots a web from an arm mounted web blaster and the Incredible Hulk shoots a green fist from... an arm mounted fist blaster. (You remember that issue right?) These ToyBiz toys look great, but nobody bought them for the game, in fact I am not sure who is playing the game.

People are playing Attacktix. Adults, children, families, everyone is playing with Attacktix because that is these figures' purpose. It is fine if you are a die-hard Transformers fan, and these toys are too childish to pick up. But do not dismiss them because they are Transformers that do not transform, like Action Masters. These are not made for transforming, they are made for battle. Scoffing at a bust of Optimus Prime because he can not transform would be ridiculous. The same goes for Attacktix, buy a Starter Set and let one missile fly. I guarantee you will be hooked!

Jedi Knight #1-2 Tips and Tricks

Jedi Knight #1-2
Reviewer: Stephen

ATTACKTIX CLASS: Warrior
STAR WARS CLASS: Jedi
POINT VALUE: 10
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Attackback (Jedi)
SPECIAL POWER RATIO: 4/26 (15%)
ATTACK TYPE: Striker (Lightsaber)

If only a swarm of Jedi Knights had been available in numbers comparable to the Clones or Droid Army, the Republic would have stood for all time. At least, so says this lover of these cheap but relatively powerful strikers. You'll be hard-pressed to find a 10-point figure that strikes as well as this Agen Kolar retool, and their special powers benefit other Jedi immensely.

Though they can fall rather easily to just about any attack when left alone, they can withstand hearty onslaughts when bunched together in a tight attack formation. Thus, beware when a number of Jedi Knights advance toward you! Can you tell this is my favorite figure for single-figure-type team play?

Tip for attacking with Jedi Knight:
Though the Jedi Knight doesn't have the most powerful strike in the game, such power shouldn't be expected from a 10-point figure. Nevertheless, if you compare the power of a Jedi Knight's strike with that of other 10-point strikers (e.g., Grievous Bodyguard), you'll find that Jedi Knights are quite an offensive bargain. For best results, make the Jedi Knight start his strike by holding the saber with both hands. Hold the tip of the lightsaber between your right thumb and index finger, keeping the length of the saber parallel to the part of your opponent's figure that you want to strike as you twist with your left hand the base of the Jedi Knight as far around as you can go. The Jedi Knight's free hand may leave the saber at this point, but that's all right. Then, while holding the Jedi Knight's base, release the tip of the Jedi Knight's saber. The resulting strike should be powerful enough to be able to use a 10 or 20 point figure to knock down another of your opponent's figures a good 10-15 Tix away.

As long as you've got a Jedi standing, the Jedi Knight's special power will be a boon to your team. Because the Jedi Knight grants an Attackback when he falls, even your strikers can take advantage of a Jedi Knight's demise. Though the Jedi Knight's special power has a low probability of coming up (certainly, it's much less probable than Grievous Bodyguard's special power from either Series 1 or 2), it's still on the high end of probability for a lowly common figure. Perhaps his biggest drawback is that he's a Warrior, which doesn't allow him to support figures with Trooper-based special powers (e.g., Starter 2 Kenobi).

Tips for attacking Jedi Knight:
The base of a lone Jedi Knight is vulnerable to even a small missile blast from 25 Tix away. Thus, aim low when trying to pick off Jedi Knights on the starting line or other times that they might stand by themselves. However, when in formation, Jedi Knights support each others' bases well, making it necessary to aim for head or high chest shots to have much of a chance of knocking them down when they're grouped together tightly.

The biggest problem with facing a team of Jedi Knights is that they are essentially interchangeable with each other. Your figure's special power lets you remove a Jedi of your choice? The only real option is to take out the one closest to your figures, as that's the only sort of “killer” figure that would be on such a team. Or maybe you can remove the figure that attacked you with your special power? Big deal! It's only a 10 point loss! The lack of fear of losing any particular figure that an opponent with a team full of Jedi Knights makes that opponent even more deadly.

Alternative Strategies
Jedi Knights can make fabulous supporting strikers for a team built around a couple of high-point shooters. You can advance the strikers in formation on your opponent's figures, forcing your opponent to break his or her figures out of formation to respect the possible strike, thereby leaving them vulnerable to large missile or Force blast attacks.

You may also choose to use Jedi Knights as cannon fodder to protect higher-point strikers as they advance on your opponent. Put Jedi Knights in front of your more valuable strikers to protect them from incoming projectiles, then peel the more valuable strikers out from behind the Jedi Knights when they're in striking range. Or advance the more valuable strikers together if they're faster than the Jedi Knights, especially if those valuable strikers have special powers that would benefit the Jedi Knights that are left trailing.

Finally, if you're good with saber strikers (particularly if you can get multiple knockdowns with a single strike by knocking one figure into another figure), and you can get a lot of these marvelous figures, you might consider building a team entirely of Jedi Knights. Break them into two or three squads to avoid having a single strike take down all of your figures and flank your opponents. When the time comes, advance a Jedi Knight or two out of formation to test your opponent. Either s/he will have to take out the advancing Jedi Knights to prevent his or her own figures from getting decimated (thus advancing those figures into striking range of the other Jedi Knights), or s/he will ignore the Jedi Knights to his or her peril when your next turn comes.

Toy Fair 2006 Attacktix Photo Tour

Thanks to Sir Steve's Guide, ASM ,Galactic Hunter, Rebelscum and TFW2005, I have found a wealth of Attacktix info and pictures. I have chopped up all the pictures and labeled the new figures.

You can see the complete
Transformers' gallery here.
And you can see the complete Star Wars gallery here.

At the conclusion of Toy Fair 2006, I should have a working list of the current Transformers Attacktix, detailing Special Powers and new Weapons. So be sure to check back.

New features: FLIGHT! Boba Fett can FLY! Looking closely at the gap between his legs and you can see a black string. A tethered system, like the gunship, will keep Boba secured to his base, while he flies up in the air. This is EXCELLENT news for those of us hoping for a Marvel Attacktix line!

New powers: TRANSFORM. Transformers can "Transform" and call in their transformed versions when defeated. It plays out like a limited Recruit power.

ATTACKTIX Battle Figure Game Returns in 2006 With Intergalactic Showdowns

The highly successful ATTACKTIX Battle Figure Game from Hasbro returns in 2006 with an intergalactic line-up that takes this exciting and challenging game to a bigger playing level.

Hasbro will expand the ATTACKTIX playing universe to include more characters from the entire STAR WARS saga, as well as introduce the TRANSFORMERS property to the battle with figures that are “MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE”. And for the first time ever, the ATTACKTIX line will offer an incredible “Battle” pack, pitting the key icons of the STAR WARS and TRANSFORMERS sagas against one another in the STAR WARS vs. Transformers Intergalactic Showdown Pack.

Highlights of Hasbro’s ATTACKTIX line include:

ATTACKTIX Starter sets
(Approximate Retail Price: $9.99, Recommended Age: 6 & up; Available: August 2006)
Building on the success of the launch of ATTACKTIX in 2005, two all new ATTACKTIX Starter Sets will be released in 2006. The STAR WARS Starter Set, which features some of the most popular characters from the epic saga, and the TRANSFORMERS Starter Set, which features everyone’s favorite robots in disguise, provide the basic figures needed for game play. Each set contains four figures, each with unique powers. Two of the figures are exclusive to the pack and will not be available in the booster packs. For those new to ATTACKTIX, the Starter Set provides a great launching point for building a squad.

ATTACKTIX Booster Packs
(Approximate Retail Price: $4.99; Recommended Age: 6 & up; Available: August 2006)
Players can increase the power and strength of their ATTACKTIX battle figure forces, with the addition of figures found in ATTACKTIX Booster Packs. Both STAR WARS and TRANSFORMERS booster packs will include two figures, one rare and one super rare figure. Each pack is blind, making the discovery of which figures are in the pack part of the excitement. There are 18 STAR WARS and 18 TRANSFORMERS figures, each with unique powers and features. Collect them all to build the ultimate squad or to trade with friends.

ATTACKTIX Star Wars vs. Transformers InterGalactic Showdown Pack
(Approximate Retail Price $19.99; Recommended Age: 6 & up; Available: August 2006)
Who would win in battle – Darth Vader or Optimus Prime? Now you can answer the question with the ATTACKTIX STAR WARS vs. Transformers Intergalactic Showdown Pack. Iconic figures from the STAR WARS universe collide with the world of TRANSFORMERS where lightsaber-wielding Jedi Knights compete against the masterful robots with incredible powers. Each pack comes with six battle figures including Darth Vader and Opitmus Prime, as well as the larger battle master figures with more fire power.

ATTACKTIX BATTLE MASTER ASSORTMENT
(Approximate Retail Price: $12.99; Recommended Age: 6 & up; Available: August 2006)
ATTACKTIX Battle Master Figures are twice as large as the average ATTACKTIX battle figure and bring more action to battles with bigger attacks, increased power, and stronger defenses, making them more difficult to defeat. For example, the AT-RT launches four missiles! Each Battle Master comes with a battle figure so that players can stage a battle right out of the box. In Fall 2006, fans can add the TRANSFORMERS Omega Supreme figure with battle throwing action and accompanying Crumplezone battle figure to their battle line-up. Also set to be released this Fall is the new Republic Gunship with flying action and clone pilot.

BACKGROUND: Hasbro’s ATTACKTIX Battle Figure Game is a revolutionary game in which opponents compete with one simple goal: to be the last one standing! Played without a board or dice, ATTACKTIX figures feature attack action such as firing blasters or lightsaber slashing, and the figure base includes all of the information you need to play the game, including special powers. Easy to start but difficult to master, the ATTACKTIX battle figure game provides action, strategy and fantasy all in one game.

Attacktix Speculation: Toy Fair 2006

Reported by: Jay Jovellanos

As noted on About.com, Hasbro now has the Marvel license.

Hasbro and the Marvel License
Hasbro and Marvel have recently announced that Hasbro has the license to produce Marvel action figures and games beginning in 2007, but aside from that basic fact, no other details have been released. Collectors are eager to learn more, and hopefully a few more details will be announced at Toy Fair.
However, after listening to almost two and a half hours of the Hasbro Investor Meeting at Toy Fair the only news of interest to Attacktix is Marvel products may be out as early as LATE 2006 (or "the back half of 2006" as stated in the Q4 Conference Call). Doesn't necessarily mean Marvel Attacktix will be here by Christams, but I will still keep my fingers crossed!
