SFX Went Crazy!

SFX, the creator of the Toy Shop, has made quite a few new figures. Be sure to check out his complete list of conceptual figures and if you have any questions or comments for him he is always on the Attacktix Forum so just pop in and leave him some feedback!

Enjoy!

SFX's Toy Shop - TIE Bomber Concept Mega Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

TIE BOMBER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Mega
POINT VALUE: 70
SPEED: 4

When people first started talking about their desire for space ships in this game I was opposed. "Attacktix is about troop movements! It's a ground battle! Keep those ships in space!" Then my desire to get my hands on more Star Wars 'tix goodness grew and I started to soften in my "anti-aircraft" opinion. "Well maybe I'd like to see the Tie Bomber at least. I suppose bombing troops is part of any ground army." But with the introduction of the Republic Gunship all bets were off. Now I want them all. Attacktix is about fun and creative game play. Not about strict rules of warfare, adherence to on-screen imagery, or even realistic proportions. It's all about the fun-factor baby!

So today I give you the Tie Bomber. Not because I've gone back on my "it's all good" attitude, but because the Bomber has a cool attack.

The Tie Bomber works a lot like the Republic Gunship. It has a retractable tether that connects it to the base and it also works as a transporter. But where the Gunship carried troops the Bomber carries a bomb (go figure). The Bomber would feature a more traditional release mechanism as opposed to the Gunship's "chomper". With the press of a button the Bomber releases it's cargo. Then all heck breaks loose.

The bomb has four small, spring loaded, missiles (see above photo) that are arrayed evenly around the large disk in the middle. On the bottom of the bomb is the release button. Drop the bomb among your opponents troops and watch them fly in all directions. But watch out for your troopers lest they get caught in the blast. That's some dangerous friendly fire.

SFX's Toy Shop - Ewok Archer Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

EWOK ARCHER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Warrior
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 10
SPEED: 4

While not a figure I thought was a sure thing for Series 4 this is one that I had hoped to see. This little guy would be a small missile launcher and is more than willing to take on the technological might of the Empire.

SFX's Toy Shop - Dexter Jettster Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

DEXTER JETTSTER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Republic
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 4

I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that we were very excited to be getting dual strikers in the form of Darth Maul and General Grievous. When we actually got our hands on them the reaction was more like '"meh". They are cool figures but their double striking ability (or lack thereof) isn't really practical. That's why I give you Dexter. While at first glance not exactly a character that deserves imortalization in 'tix form his anatomy lends itself to a great figure. Both of his striking arms moves independent of the other. Need to strike someone from the right side? No problem. Want to take out that Super Battle Droid with a little south paw action? Go ahead. Dexter will take on all comers.

SFX's Toy Shop - R2-D2 Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

R2-D2
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10

Think of R2 as the switchblade version of C3P0. His front leg would be hollow and Attacktix-ized (a.k.a. comically out of proportion) to make room for the electro shock. Just push down on his shiny dome and he'll send Salacious Crumb or any other figure jumping for the rafters.

SFX's Toy Shop - Emperor Palpatine Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

EMPEROR PALPATINE
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Leader
STAR WARS CLASS: Empire
POINT VALUE: 40
SPEED: 4

The Emperor is a figure I thought was a sure thing for Series 4, it looks like that's not the case. This incarnation would fire 2 small missiles. The missiles would be clear like the force blasts and be sculpted to resemble lightning is some way.

SFX's Toy Shop - Tusken Maiden Concept Figure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

TUSKEN MAIDEN
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Tusken
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Battle Cry
SPECIAL POWER RATIO: 22/26 (84%)
EFFECT: "You can make two additional attacks per turn as long as you have this Tusken Maiden in play."

This figure falls into the same category as Yoda. It's the "Go ahead and knock me over. I dare ya" category. Usually when I design these figures I don't include a special power and I definitely don't include a SP ratio, but this little lady is different.

The Tusken Maiden brings something to the Tusken team that I believe lends itself to them nicely. She whips them up into a battle frenzy. Think about it like this, the Tusken Maiden hangs to the back of the battle field. To protect her the other Tuskens fight and attack like crazy (thus the two free attacks). When the Maiden is unfortunately killed her death cry (Battle Cry) drives the rest of the Tuskens berserk and they up their attacks.

SFX's Toy Shop - Lobot Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

LOBOT
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 12
SPECIAL POWER: Attackback Lando Calrissian
EFFECT: "If you have Lando Calrissian in play, you may move two Troopers into base contact with this figure during the movement phase of your turn."

Lobot's Effect power could be named "Coordinated Attack". Coordinating things was Lobot's specialty. His Effect recreates his ability to (silently) command troops with his funky robo headband. Yes, I know what you are thinking "Why does a launcher have a 12 speed?" If Lobot had the traditional speed of a launcher his effect would be pretty useless (perhaps I could have made him without a gun, but what's the fun in that?) Moving the Troopers into base contact with Lobot would count as the Troopers movement for your turn.

SFX's Toy Shop - Anakin Skywalker Concept FIgure

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

ANAKIN SKYWALKER
ATTACKTIX CLASS: Specialist
STAR WARS CLASS: Republic
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Attackback Qui-Gon Jinn
EFFECT: "At the beginning of your turn, you may press Anakin's pack. If window shows green you may stand up one of your fallen figures during your opponents next turn."

I'm of the opinion that almost every character that has appeared in the Star Wars flicks should also appear in Attacktix (yes, even Jar Jar) so we definitely need little Annie. His effect power reflects his ability to see things before they happen. Yes it actually recreates the power of Recover but think of it like this, little Annie uses the force to warn one of his teammates about an attack your opponent is about to make. You opponent fires and knocks Annie's teammate over but with Annie's warning the teammate is able to dodge the brunt of the attack and stand up again.

Variations on the Luke and Han in Disguise

Luke and Han in Stormtrooper gear has been one of my favorite additions to Attacktix, and I play Webhead's team below almost constantly, with some variations. Luke and Han in armor, with an unarmed Chewie makes we wish he had a pair of busted electro-cuffs dangling from his attacking hand. The memories of the rescue in cell 1138 come flooding back.

C-3P0 may not have the striking power of a Jedi, or any range at all, but on an all Rebel team his Special Ability could be devastating. It only goes off about 40% of the time, but in an ALL Rebel team, that means your opponent can not make any attacks the next turn. Threepio will eat up 20 points on your starting squad, so adding the Series 3 Leia will allow the all new Uppercut Chewbacca to back up Han. This means you may sacrifice 4 attacks per turn (in the review below), but you now have the possibility of 6-8 unanswered attacks, depending on how quickly Chewie can reach the opponents.

If your opponent attempts to take out the Princess early in the game, to limit your free attacks Chewie has about a 50/50 chance of getting her back in the game. This gives both your strikers reasons to charge in early and take on all comers!

In the best cast scenario, leading with Threepio will require your opponent to shoot around him, or take him our early and risk no attacks the following turn. Threepio's speed can get him in range quickly, and his arm flail can do more damage then you think. Besides Megas, I haven't found an opponent I C-3P0 couldn't conquer when in range.

Keeping Leia in the back is a great idea, giving you three attacks every turn until Chewie or Threepio are in range. This may seem like a waste of her power, but in a battle that requires some Rebel strikers, this is a great option. Also, the powerful launching squad of Webhead COULD be knocked down to three depending on your opponent, leaving you in a situation similar to this team.

In larger battles (100+ points) the Leia/as Trooper combo, along with an R2 unit can also be deadly. Of course, if you are playing 100 point games to win, and don't mind many familiar faces, try a Series 2 Leia and four Luke in Stormtroopers. Have a Force Blast Luke, or Series 2 and 3 Lightsaber Lukes in backup.

Web of Webhead - Building the Squad

Building the Squad: Luke and Han as Stormtroopers…

Attacktix Series 3 brought us two of my favorite characters in the game, Luke and Hand disguised as Stormtroopers. These characters taken together are unique in the game, the only figures with effects, special powers, AND normal attacks. On top of that, their effects and specials do an extraordinary job of conveying the flavor of the characters…they are out to rescue the Princess, so as long as she is in play, they attack for free. Plus, once you crack their armor, they have a chance as coming back as their normal versions. Lets take a look at building a squad around these two characters…Using both Luke and Han as a starting point, we’ve tied up a total of 40 points already, but to really use them to their fullest, we need to pick a Princess Leia to go with them. Neither version of the Princess is well respected for her attacking power…and most would consider the newer, cheaper version to be the better of the two. Both have about a fifty percent chance of her special going off…and it’s an important distinction to make between the two. Keep in mind, both Luke and Han have Recruit powers to bring in alternate versions of themselves, so obviously, we’ll be stocking the Backups with the two of them. In my mind, this makes the Recruit version, though more expensive, the better choice. That would leave 30 points to work with. Now…let’s consider that we are getting two free attacks to start with, and Leia is a third attack. In my mind, it makes the most sense to have another launcher, as you’ll be able to attack with four figures a turn from turn one, every time. As luck would have it, launcher Chewbacca fills in the curve nicely, and adds a large missle to the mix. One quick point, keep in mind Chewbacca’s special only works if Han Solo is in play, not just any Han…so he only has a chance at recovering if you’ve already recruited Han Solo off of Has Disguised or Leia.

Speaking of recruiting, let’s look at our backup configuration. While the new starter “Force Blast” Luke is a legal target for recruiting, it’s clear we want both Luke and Han. Luckily, both have a 20 and 30 point version to choose from. We can eliminate the new Han (his Recruit Chewbacca power doesn’t help us any) and go with the original Han (whose Attackback for Chewbacca could serve us well), and this decision pushes us into the 20 point Luke, whose Attackback for Rebels would benefit anyone on the team as well. Let’s review:

Squad: Rescue the Princess 100 pts.

Luke as Stormtrooper (SW/28)3) x 1 = 20 pts.

Han Solo as Stormtrooper (SW/28)3) x 1 = 20 pts.

Princess Leia (SW/14)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Chewbacca (SW/23)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Backups: 50 pts.

Luke Skywalker (SW/29)2) x 1 = 20 pts.

Han Solo (SW/28)2) x 1 = 30 pts.

Playing the Squad:

The whole squad revolves around having four launcher attacks per turn…so use them. Let your opponents strikers come to you, and let Leia hang back a little, because she’s the key to your extra attacks. You’ll need to rely on your Specials to stretch your four man squad out to six, but chances are good you’ll get at least one of your backups into play in an average game. In particular, this squad should have a good chance against Jedi Knight swarm teams, as the raw number of attacks should give you a chance.

In the end, I’m sure you’ll enjoy playing this theme squad that ends up packing quite a punch.

SFX's Toy Shop - Power Droid

Hey gang, welcome to the Toy Shop!

As you can tell by the great threads about game play variations and future figures, Attacktix lends itself to creativity. I've had a few ideas rattling around for awhile and I thought I'd share them with you. Think of them as figure mods, but instead of paint & clay I'll use ones & zeros.

POWER DROID

STAR WARS CLASS: Rebel
POINT VALUE: 10
SPEED: 10
EFFECT: "At the beginning of your turn, you may press Power Droid's top. If window shows green you may swap one of your figures for a figure of the same name at any time during the movement phase of your turn."

I've always wanted figures that did multiple things, like strike and shoot. Since that wasn't in the cards I posted an idea for a swap special power on a thread about special powers. This time around I thought I'd go one better.

We all know that Obi-Wan can swing a saber, blast the force and kick some butt better than most but when you are playing Attacktix he's a one trick pony... until now. With this little guy you can swap out any figure for a figure with the same name. Have you ever made the mistake of tixing toward an enemy to deliver the killing blow only to find that you miscounted and you are tix or 2 away? With the Power Droid this is no longer a problem. Just swap your striker for it's launcher counterpart and blow your opponent away. With this droid you can take advantage of the high movement numbers of your strikers and the range of your launchers and combine them into a deadly combo.

Custom Attacktix - Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura

ATTACKTIX CLASS: Warrior
STAR WARS CLASS: Jedi
POINT VALUE: 20
SPEED: 10
SPECIAL POWER: Recruit (Jedi)
ATTACK TYPE: Striker (Lightsaber)

I made a striking Aayla Secura. I went Copperfield on Padme and cut her in two. Then I scored out her insides and stuck a striking mechanism in there. (Natalie needs to eat, she was WAY to thin, the thing barely fits).

Anyway, I painted her up and secured a lightsaber in her hand and she works like a charm. I haven't tried her against all the big guys, but she has been taking down small and medium bases with no problem!

Check this out to see how she attacks!

She has a great swing since she has NO friction on her hips, since she lost her hips in a freak Dremel accident (You can see it in the back picture.)

Web of Webhead - Breaking R2-Q5

While R2-D2 is probably the most recognizable robot of all time, he does have a dark side.

Or, rather, I should say there is a dark version of him, known as R2-Q5. This droid was found on the second Death Star, and has gained notoriety mostly for his resemblance to R2-D2. In Series 3, he has found his way into Attacktix, with his own special effect to bring to the game. But is it strong enough an effect to “break” the game? Let’s take a look…R2-Q5

R2-Q5 has no attack, but he does have the following game effect; “At start of your turn, you may press R2’s top. If green, one of your (T) Troopers may move up to twice its normal distance.” For 10 points, you get what appears to be a 2 out of 3 chance for this effect to go off each turn.

Now, doubling the speed of your average Clone Trooper to 8, or even your run of the mill Super Battle Droid to 12 might sound like fun, but probably not game breaking. After all, for 20 points you can have the Clone Sergeant who moves 10 all of the time. But…let’s take a look at one of the more derided strikers in the game, the Grievous Bodyguard. In Series 1 he was deemed almost unplayable. So, he made a comeback in Series 3 with an impressive 12 speed and the highest Special Power ratio of any 10 point figure with an attack. (Only R2-D2’s is higher.) Now, even with these improved stats and powers, he didn’t exactly set the Attacktix world on fire. Enter R2-Q5.

R2-Q5 can boost the GBGs speed up to 24, a full 10 ‘tix faster than the next closest figure. On a normal size board, few figures are out of range after the first round of movement at that speed. Without a doubt, the GBG maximizes the effect of Q5. Is this combo enough to build a team around? I think so.

Allow me to suggest the following squad. Central to the squad is the GBG/Q5 combo. Now, Q5 is also good enough to have a Rally > (T) Trooper special, so rounding out the team with pure Troopers seems like a given. Taking GBG’s special into account pushes us further into the Droid Army. Luckily, the buffest Trooper in the game is on the Droid Army bench, the mighty Destroyer Droid. I’d also lean towards throwing in a Super Battle Droid, to assure having two shooters available for when GBG’s are out of range.

Squad:

R2-Q5 x 1 10 pts.

Grievous Bodyguard (S2) x 3 30 pts.

Destroyer Droid x 1 40 pts.

Super Battle Droid (S1) x 1 20 pts.

This squad has no Backups, as there are no Recruit powers. However, there are Rescue and Rally powers, so you do have a shot at getting some figures back into play. The plan is to launch GBGs on kamikaze runs into enemy territory. Though their attacks are weak, is all goes well they should be able to base any enemy and take them out. If their special fires on the retaliaton, all the better to get your Destroyer Droid firing both barrels. There is terrific synergy throughout this entire squad, and the deep distance a boosted GBG can go should allow you to pick off your opponents figs in an order that should minimize the effectiveness of their specials. And if all else fails, you still have the Destroyer Droid and Super Battle Droid, 3 missles a turn, to fall back on.

In closing, I believe this combo is one of the strongest in the game, and I hope you try it out for yourself. Even if all it does is focus your opponents attacks on your non-attacking figure, you’ve already done your strategy a great service.
